13 active 5,455 MW hydropower projects: PPIB

Speaking at a workshop organized by PPIB and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to create a strong framework for tariff-based bidding of hydropower projects in Pakistan, Shah Jahan Mirza stated that the 884 MW Suki Kinari project is expected to begin operations in November 2024.

According to him, PPIB has already had great success in luring private capital to create independent power plants (IPPs). This is demonstrated by the fact that four hydro IPPs totaling more than 1,000 MW have been constructed to date.

In addition to hydropower, 54 wind, solar, and bagasse-based IPPs totaling 2,785 MW have been successfully implemented thanks to PPIB’s effective facilitation. Projects like this workshop are crucial in helping Pakistan continue its path towards achieving energy security, sustainability, efficiency, and competitiveness.

The PPIB MD also thanked AFD, the consultant, and every other attendee for their enthusiastic participation and significant contributions that helped to ensure the event’s success.
