“81 industries closed in five years as a result of the electricity crisis.”
The house was informed by Parliamentary Secretary of Industries and Commerce Department Ali Ahmed, in answer to questions from MPs, that the province government is offering industrialists cooperation.
But Leader of the Opposition Ali Khurshidi was not happy with the answers and asked for details on how many industrial units were closed and how many were opened between 2018 and 2023. Minister Saeed Ghani of Local Government stepped in to clarify that the inquiry was related to the labor department.
According to Ahmed, there are still 6,856 industrial units in use throughout the region, along with 915 newly constructed units. A cement factory and ten textile mills are among the closed facilities.
Enacted a Provincial Narcotics Law
With the intention of regulating narcotics, synthetic drugs, and psychotropic substances, the assembly overwhelmingly approved the Sindh Control of Narcotic Substances Bill, 2024.
The bill has been revised to provide drugs control officers the authority to carry out arrests and searches without a warrant, which includes breaking down doors and removing obstructions during raids.
To conduct searches and make arrests, cops must hold at least the inspector rank, according to the recent modification. Anyone suspected of breaking the Act may be arrested by authorized officials. Substances like crystal, ice, meth, molly, ecstasy, and crystal are also governed by legislation.
