884 people have died as a result of floods and monsoon rains in Pakistan: PDMA

A report on the number of people killed by recent floods and monsoon rains in Pakistan was issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday.

According to report, a total of 884 people have lost their lives from floods and monsoon rains since June 26 while 1,181 have been injured. There were 510 men, 135 women, and 239 children among the dead, and 568 men, 290 women, and 323 children among the injured.

With 489 fatalities, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had the greatest number. In Punjab, 223 people lost their lives, followed by 58 in Sindh, 26 in Balochistan, and 9 in Islamabad. Meanwhile, 41 deaths were reported in Gilgit-Baltistan and 38 in Azad Kashmir.

It is important to note that Punjab is projected to have further monsoon rains from September 6 to 8, and that the situation in areas of the province hit by flooding is getting worse. From September 7 to 9, Sindh is also expected to see a lot of rainfall.

In several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, rain is also anticipated. Upper and mountainous areas are more vulnerable to landslides and flash floods. Potential landslides in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have prompted alerts.
