The SC connects the remand case of the PTI founder with that of Omar Sarfraz Cheema.

Due to the similarities between the two cases, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has chosen to hear both the PTI founder’s case and the physical remand case of former Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema.

Chief Justice Yahya Afridi stated at the hearing that in order to guarantee uniformity in court rulings, the two cases—which deal with physical remand—should be heard jointly.

Cheema’s attorney contended that his client was taken into custody prior to the filing of the formal complaint. The court was told that only after the matter was placed before the High Court was the FIR filed.

The attorney for the Punjab government, meanwhile, said that in order to retrieve a pistol that was purportedly in Cheema’s possession, authorities need his custody. The court did point out, though, that not a single day of physical remand had been given.

The hearing was postponed until April 24 by the Supreme Court. A three-person bench led by Justice Hashim Kakar will conduct the upcoming proceedings.
