PTA acknowledges that internet and mobile phone service in Pakistan is getting worse.

Mobile consumers throughout Pakistan continue to struggle with erratic 4G and even 3G connections, despite the country’s continued optimism regarding the introduction of 5G technology.

Despite mounting public annoyance, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has only made statements this year rather than taking any concrete action against telecom providers who offer subpar service.

PTA recognised the continuous decline in internet and mobile phone services across the country. Users have complained of frequent signal dropouts, incredibly poor mobile data, and interrupted connectivity everywhere from highways and isolated towns to big centres like Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.

One irate customer in Islamabad said, “The country waiting for 5G is practically deprived of even 3G and 4G.”

PTA doesn’t take any proactive measures.
Furthermore, as of now in 2025, no concrete steps have been done to punish telecom corporations for providing subpar services. The authority asserted that efforts are underway to improve cellular services and underlined that “improving the quality of service is a continuous process.”

PTA claims that follow-up activities and surveys are carried out on a regular basis to keep an eye on telecom performance. The authority also stated that it has fined cellphone operators a total of Rs68.9 million over the previous few years. But so far, only Rs13.6 million has been retrieved.

There are a lot of complaints.
Users claim that the current status of mobile service has become a daily annoyance, ranging from sluggish mobile data rates to signal dropouts. Travellers complain of frequent interruptions, even on Pakistan’s highways, where constant mobile reception is crucial.
