As Karachi is devastated by the intense monsoon rains, the streams in Lyari and Malir flood.

The Lyari and Malir streams swelled as a result of Tuesday’s intense monsoon rains in Karachi, causing urban flooding and flooding residential areas. Rainwater invaded residential neighborhoods in Sarjani Town and Nagan Chowrangi. Homes in the vicinity were submerged as the Malir Stream overflowed at Ayub Goth Bridge and Lasi Goth. Once Thado Dam was full, the Lyari and Malir streams both swelled alarmingly.

Communities nearby, including Nishtar Basti and Essa Nagri, were inundated by floodwater. Traffic movement was seriously disrupted as water from Thado Dam entered the M-9 Motorway and affected the track leading to Hyderabad.

Several persons who were stranded in floodwater were safely rescued during rescue operations in Sohrab Goth, Hasan Manan Colony, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
