Nothing will stop Qatar’s role as a mediator, according to the prime minister of Qatar.

Hours after Israel attacked Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani stated on Tuesday, September 9, that mediation efforts are an integral part of Qatari identity and that nothing would hinder its role in this regard.

Doha has played a crucial role in mediating the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, alongside Cairo and Washington.

“Qatar has spared no efforts and will do everything it can to stop this war in Gaza, but for current talks, I do not think there’s something valid right now after what we saw from today’s attack,” al-Thani said during a press conference.

He harshly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of engaging in “state terrorism,” and blaming Israel for undermining what he claimed were opportunities for peace.

Following an incident in Jerusalem and the deaths of four Israeli troops in Gaza, Netanyahu said that the attack was “entirely justified” and that it was ordered.

Ten minutes after the Israeli airstrike started, according to Al-Thani, US officials alerted Qatar on the incident, calling it “100 percent treacherous.”

He also stated that a legal team has been established to manage the Gulf nation’s response to the attack. “Qatar reserves the right to respond to this blatant attack and will take all necessary measures to respond,” he said.

Israel’s strikes on Qatar are condemned by the UN chief.

Israel’s attacks on Qatar were denounced by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday as a “flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity” of the Persian Gulf nation.

At a press conference to introduce his report on global military spending, Guterres stated, “We are just learning about the Israeli attacks in Qatar, a country that has been playing a very positive role to achieve a ceasefire and release of all hostages.”

The UN chief called on all parties to “work towards achieving a permanent ceasefire, not destroying” and denounced “this flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar.”

Israeli airstrikes on top Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday are viewed as a new setback to efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement for Gaza.
