Karachi-Lahore motorway project valued at Rs68.7 billion submitted to ECNEC.

On Thursday, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal presided over a meeting of the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), which sanctioned three development projects and proposed four to ECNEC for additional evaluation and approval.

The forum sanctioned a modified initiative titled “Action to Strengthen Performance for Inclusive and Responsive Education Program (TA Component)” with a budget of Rs1383.48 million.

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has submitted a project titled “Establishment of Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research, Lahore,” valued at Rs74,920.140 million, to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further evaluation. The project is intended to be funded by the Provincial Annual Development Program (ADP).

The amended “Harpo Hydropower Project (34.5MW)” in the energy sector was submitted to the ECNEC with an updated cost of Rs34,340.185 million.

Two projects pertaining to Transport and Communications, specifically “Construction of an 8-Lane Overhead Bridge at Imamia Colony Railway Crossing Shahdara (N-5),” with a revised cost of Rs4,673.137 million, were sanctioned during the meeting.

A revised project discussed in the meeting, titled “land acquisition, affected properties compensation, and relocation of utilities for the construction of the 959-kilometer-long Karachi-Lahore Motorway (KLM) (excluding 136 km of M-9 and 57 km of M-4 completed),” valued at Rs68,739.930 million, was referred to ECNEC for further consideration.

The proposal titled “Balochistan Water Resources Development Sector Project (BWRDSP) for Zhob and Mula River Basin (Revised)” was submitted to ECNEC with a revised cost of Rs49,901.411 million.

The forum granted concept permission for the exploration of overseas financing for five ideas, including three agriculture-related initiatives from Balochistan.
