Meeting with the Chinese Finance Minister, Finance Minister Aurangzeb Talks About Economic Cooperation

On the fringes of the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., Chinese Finance Minister His Excellency Lan Fo’an met with Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. The goal of the summit was to deepen China-Pakistan economic cooperation.
Senator Aurangzeb, the Finance Minister, remembered his prior encounter with his Chinese colleague in Beijing in July 2024 during the meeting. He was grateful for China’s ongoing assistance with Pakistan’s socioeconomic advancement. The Chinese government’s substantial support of Pakistan’s economic reform program under the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) was acknowledged by the finance minister.
Pakistan’s major reforms in sectors including taxation, energy, privatization, public finance, and state-owned companies were discussed with his Chinese counterpart by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. He also gave an update on the Panda Bond’s progress.
To speed up the Panda Bond issuance process, the Finance Minister asked the People’s Bank of China for assistance.
At the end of the meeting, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb invited the Chinese Finance Minister to come to Pakistan.
