As part of the Saddar campaign, K-Electric eliminates 1,300 illicit connections.

According to a spokesperson for the firm, K-Electric has increased its efforts to combat electricity theft in Karachi’s Saddar neighborhood, eliminating almost 1,300 unauthorized connections.

Approximately 1.45 million energy units were protected from theft during the operations, and more than 1,700 kg of wires used for power theft were seized.

According to the spokesperson, load-shedding no longer affects 88 percent of feeds in Saddar. However, because of high rates of electricity theft and unpaid debts, problems still exist in places like Sultanabad, Hijrat Colony, Railway Colony, and Bizarat Lines.

K-Electric also disclosed that Saddar District’s unpaid debts total more than Rs 1.1 billion, which is a significant barrier to obtaining complete load-shedding exemption.

In order to prevent electricity theft in Karachi, K-Electric (KE) previously dismantled 81 illegal connections totaling 290 kilograms in Orangi Town in cooperation with law enforcement.

Peerabad, Aligarh Market, Banaras Market, and Sathan Colony were among the sub-areas that were the focus of the operation. Additionally, 53 instances of electricity theft via manipulated meters were discovered throughout the operation.

According to one of the KE’s representatives, about 157,000 units of electricity are taken out each year as a result of the illicit connections.

There are around 1.6 billion PKR in unpaid debts in the region, which has had a big financial impact.

By circumventing standard operating procedures (SOPs), such unauthorized connections not only jeopardize public safety but also seriously harm utility networks, the spokeswoman emphasized.

The goal of this operation is to reduce line losses, enhance service dependability, and prevent energy theft in Karachi as part of K-Electric’s anti-theft effort.

According to the representative, load-shedding does not currently affect 70% of KE’s network. Scheduled outages are still present in places with high rates of theft and nonpayment.

K-Electric reiterated that preventing theft and making sure bills are paid on time are crucial first steps in creating a Karachi free of load shedding. KE has stepped up its citywide efforts in recent months.
