Due to severe charges of misbehavior, Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon has ordered an investigation into four deputy superintendents of police (DSPs).
Tanveer Alam Odho, a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), has been designated as the inquiry officer.
Aurangzeb Khattak (Sohrab Goth), Asif Munir (Kalakot), Shabbir Ahmed (Kharadar), and Zafar Iqbal (Eidgah) are the DSPs against whom the investigation has been directed.
The cops are accused of extortion from tea stalls and street vendors, assisting smuggling, acquiring land, and having ties to the parking mafia.
Munir is accused of extorting money from drug traffickers and the parking mafia, while Khattak is accused of land grabbing and facilitating smuggling.
Ahmed is charged with unlawfully collecting money from tea booths and sellers, and Iqbal is charged with the same offenses in addition to unlawful parking activities.
The inquiry officer has been instructed by IG Memon to turn in his report by September 26.
According to The News earlier this year, the Sindh IG dismissed 50 police officers and staff from different regions of the province, including Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas, as part of a significant crackdown on corruption and wrongdoing within the police force.
Several chief constables and constables, three sub-inspectors, one assistant sub-inspector, and fourteen inspectors are among the individuals included in the suspension orders.
All had been sent to “B Company” at Police Headquarters South Garden. Additionally, an official notification had been sent in this regard.
According to reports, the suspended officials were charged with corruption and supporting criminal elements.
Inspector Amir Rafiq, who was assigned to Karachi’s East Zone, was similarly suspended and moved to the same headquarters.
DIG Establishment Naeem Shaikh sent out a separate suspension notice.
