Chaman border has been closed following an explosion.

The fatality count from Thursday’s catastrophic explosion along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Chaman has increased to six, as one further injured individual succumbed to his injuries, confirmed medical personnel at the Chaman Civil Hospital on Friday, noting that three others continue to get treatment.

The explosion transpired near a taxi stop in a refugee camp region adjacent to the border, commonly visited by travelers and locals. Police sources characterized the incident as “a suicide blast” that resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals.

Preliminary reports indicated that four individuals had perished; however, two of the injured later succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital, according to officials. They further noted that border movement had been suspended while the investigation into the explosion persisted.

The border closure, along with the suspension of internet access in the town and surrounding areas, has left numerous Afghan families stranded in extreme heat. Extensive lines of automobiles have emerged on either side.

Security measures have been intensified at the Chaman border following the bombing, with guards exercising heightened attention.
