KP and Balochistan assemblies chose Khaliq Achakzai and Saleem Swati to speak.

Babar Saleem Swati and Abdul Khaliq Achakzai were chosen as speakers by the legislatures of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, respectively, on Thursday.

Babar Saleem Swati of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SUI) received 89 votes in the KP Assembly, whereas Ihsanullah Khan of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was only able to receive 17. There were 106 votes cast in total.

Subsequently, Swati swore in as the assembly’s speaker.

In a meeting, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Committee approved Babar Saleem Swati for the speaker position and Surayya Bibi, a candidate who had been returned from Chitral in the general election, for the deputy speakership.

From the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) platform, Babar Saleem Swati and Surayya Bibi had submitted papers for the speaker and deputy speaker roles.

Aqibullah, the brother of former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser, had previously been nominated for speaker but had withdrawn the nomination just one day before the election.

The opposition has filed papers for speaker Ehsanullah Miankhel of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and deputy speaker Arbab Wasim Hayat of the PTI-Parliamentarian.

The Sunni Ittehad Council and opposition party candidates’ documents have been deemed complete.

Separately, the Pakistan Muslim League of Nawaz’s Abdul Khaliq Achakzai was chosen speaker and Ghazala Gola deputy speaker by the Balochistan Assembly without opposition.

Recall that on Wednesday, the 57 recently elected members of the Balochistan Assembly took their oath of office. There are sixty-five members of the assembly in total.

Captain (R) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai was the PML-N’s nominee to be the speaker of the Balochistan Assembly. Shehbaz Sharif, the PML-N’s nominee for prime minister, approved the speaker of the Balochistan Assembly’s nomination.

At 3:00 pm, during the assembly session, the newly elected speaker and deputy speaker will take an oath of office.
