Once more, the UN Security Council is unable to halt the violence in Gaza: Asim Iftikhar, Ambassador

According to Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, the Security Council has once again failed to halt the escalating violence in Gaza.

The ambassador said that the “Palestinian people are the masters of their own destiny, and that destiny is freedom” during the UN General Assembly’s discussion on the use of veto in regard to the Palestine problem.

He declared that neither the creation of peace nor the Palestinians’ right to self-determination could be further postponed.

Pakistan will never waver in its support for the Palestinian people, he underlined.

Noting that the international world has sadly been silent about the continued destruction and humanitarian situation in Gaza, Asim also praised recent meetings between US President Donald Trump and Arab and OIC leaders. He blasted the Security Council for “failing to pass a resolution on humanitarian aid and to stop the bloodshed in Gaza.”

In addition to urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Pakistan’s envoy emphasized the importance of holding Israel responsible and pursuing a two-state solution to the Palestine dispute.
