Government delegation and JAAC finalize accord to terminate AJK demonstrations

The concluding round of negotiations between the government’s team and the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) had positive results, culminating in a signed agreement by both parties to terminate the turmoil and protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), as reported by Dunya News on Friday.

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, a member of the Prime Minister’s negotiation committee and Federal Minister, revealed that the government’s negotiation team has finalized a deal with the JAAC.

In a message disseminated on the social media network X, previously referred to as Twitter, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry characterized the deal as a “triumph for peace.” He also verified that demonstrators are returning to their residences and that all thoroughfares have now been reopened.

The Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, has characterized the deal with the Joint Action Committee as a triumph for Pakistan, Azad Kashmir, and democracy.

He stated that public grievances in recent weeks had generated a challenging scenario; but, the sagacity of local and national leadership, along with a spirit of discussion, facilitated the peaceful resolution of this impasse, devoid of violence, division, and with mutual respect.

He stated that this resolution does not signify a triumph of one faction over another; rather, it represents a victory for the populace of AJK, Pakistan, and democracy. “It demonstrates that when the government is receptive and the populace participates constructively, we can collaboratively identify solutions,” he stated.

The Joint Action Committee amplified the public’ concerns, prompting the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to address these issues earnestly. We opted for consultation rather than conflict. We opted for empathy over egos. He stated, “We pledge to collaborate for effective governance and development in AJK.”
