Today marks the arrival of an IMF delegation in Pakistan for review discussions.
According to sources, the discussions are scheduled for March 14–18.
Mohammad Aurangzeb, the nation’s recently sworn-in finance minister, has approved negotiations with the IMF over the SBA and a new loan program.
Regarding the final $1.1 billion payment under the SBA program, Islamabad will speak with the foreign lender. According to the reports, Pakistan has already met the goals that the IMF had set for the second review.
They said that Pakistan is probably going to ask the IMF for a new $6–8 billion credit package. According to officials in the finance ministry, Islamabad will discuss the economic goals for the new loan program with the IMF.
Following the creation of PM Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on March 8 that it is prepared to dispatch a delegation to Islamabad for the second economic assessment.
According to the IMF Director of Communications, the present priority is finishing the Stand-By Program, which will expire in April 2024. A mission for the program’s second review will be sent out as soon as Pakistan’s new government is formed.
