The Inspector General of Sindh reports that 213 inmates escaped from Malir Jail, with 78 being recaptured.

Sindh IG announced that inmates who escape from Malir Jail and subsequently surrender voluntarily will receive lenient treatment. He explicitly stated that those apprehended by law enforcement will encounter stringent legal repercussions.

Memon confirmed that 213 convicts escaped, with 78 rearrested and around 138 remaining at large.

In contrast to previous reports, Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon emphasized that the detainees did not breach the prison wall but instead exited through the jail gate.

He observed that most inmates in Malir Jail are substance abusers, and due to their diminished cognitive faculties, they may not have comprehended the ramifications of their behavior.

Following a recent earthquake, the inmates were assembled in an open courtyard as a precautionary measure to avert injuries from crumbling facilities.

The Sindh Inspector General announced the formation of specialized squads to capture the remaining fugitives, with operations now underway in the adjacent regions.

He stated that Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel attempted to apprehend the fleeing detainees and were compelled to discharge warning shots due to the sheer volume of escapees.

Amidst the turmoil, one inmate perished, while multiple FC personnel incurred injuries. The Inspector General of Sindh commended the bravery and prompt action of the Frontier Corps members, highlighting that their rapid response averted a significantly greater escape.

Officials persist in encouraging the remaining fugitives to voluntarily surrender to avert more severe repercussions.
