Pakistan is swept by a severe heatwave; alerts are sent
Temperatures are much above average due to a severe heat wave that is affecting many parts of Pakistan.
The regions of Umarkot, Larkana, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Sukkur, Naudero, Nawabshah, and Multan are among those for which the Met Department has issued warnings.
The department stated that a severe heat wave will continue to affect the majority of the nation’s plains. It added that 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over average temperatures are predicted for the plains of Sindh and Punjab, which are especially affected.
More aggravating the situation is the expectation for Islamabad and the surrounding areas to have exceptionally hot and dry weather.
Alert for Punjab
The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), in reaction to the intensifying heat wave, has sent out an alert for the whole province, including Lahore, the capital. To lessen the effects of the intense heat, special measures are being put in place.
Heatwave counters have been installed at General Hospital and Mayo Hospital in Lahore. Banners offering safety tips are attached to these counters to assist people in adjusting to the high temperatures. The hospital’s management has attested to their readiness, saying they have all the medications needed to treat patients impacted by the heat wave on hand.
A hospital administration spokesperson stated, “As of right now, we have not received any patients suffering from heat-related illnesses.” “However, we are fully equipped and ready to handle any such cases.”
The Met Department said on Tuesday that from May 21 to 23, daytime temperatures in Sindh and Punjab are expected to soar by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above average. It is predicted that between May 23 and May 27, the temperature would rise even further, by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius.
Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan are expected to see comparable temperature anomalies, with daytime highs of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius throughout the same period of time.
