Investigation into the commercial usage of Walton Airport’s land is “begun” by the NAB.
The case will reportedly be looked into in relation to Khaqan Murtaza, the former director general (DG) of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), as well as other CAA officials.
According to insiders, NAB has formulated a series of 13 inquiries for Khaqan Murtaza, which encompass the rationale for the airport’s shutdown and the choice to utilize the property for business endeavors.
The Aircraft Owners and Operators Association has reportedly been contacted by the NAB with the 13 questions in order to request their assistance with the inquiry, according to sources.
An intense debate was previously sparked by the Aircraft Owners & Operators Association of Pakistan (AOOAP) accusing the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of selling airport land to a provincial real estate developer at a significantly reduced price.
Questions regarding possible corruption and rule and regulation violations were raised when the land was sold for less than 15% of its Rs350 billion market value.
Eventually, after calling the charges “baseless and fake,” the CAA refuted them. Claims that the AOOAP is trying to undermine the project have also been rejected by the provincial real estate development agency.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of the PTI administration permanently closed the oldest Walton airport in Lahore in 2021, which is important to note.
Due to the airport’s permanent closure to all traffic, the CAA had instructed all flying clubs to ground their aircraft.
