Starting in July, there will be fixed costs on electricity bills in Pakistan.

The government will ultimately decide whether to impose the fixed costs, and the regulatory body has submitted its proposal for fixed charges of Rs. 200–1,000 per month in the electricity bills to that body.

A fixed price of Rs 200 per month will be paid by home customers using 301–400 units per month, Rs 400 by those using 401–500 units per month, and Rs 600 by end users utilising 501–600 units of energy, per the proposal. These payments will take effect on July 1, 2024.

The monthly cost for residential users using units 601–700 is Rs. 800; users using units more than 700 pay Rs. 1,000.

A monthly fixed payment of Rs1,000 would also be paid by residential users of the ToU (time of usage) metre.

A fixed price of Rs 1,000 per month will also be imposed on commercial customers with loads under 5 kW. On the other hand, commercial power consumers with loads of 5 kW or more will now pay Rs2,000 instead of Rs500, a 300% increase.

At the moment, fixed charges make up 72% of the entire cost of each power unit, while variable rates make up 28%.
