Iddat case: wife’s plea is scheduled on June 27; verdict on PTI founder

Extra District and Sessions Court Following the taking of all sides’ evidence and arguments, Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka reserved his decision.

At 3 p.m. on Thursday, the court is probably going to deliver the verdict.

Lawyers for Khawar Maneka Zahid Asif Chaudhry and Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, Salman Safdar, appeared before the court during the previous hearing.

Bushra Bibi had requested a 10-day suspension of her conviction in the Nikah case. Earlier this month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed the session court to announce the judgment.

In the Nikah case, Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, filed a plea in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the couple’s conviction, which resulted in a seven-year prison sentence and fines of Rs 500,000 each.

Matrimony between Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi

In February 2018 in Lahore, the former prime minister wed Bushra Bibi.

Only the bride’s mother and immediate family members and friends were present for the ceremony. The sisters of the founder of PTI, however, were not there.

The nikah was done by Mufti Saeed with witnesses Awn Chaudhary, a former leader of the Pakitan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Zulfi Bukhari, a former SAPM.

Former spouse of Bibi, Khawar Maneka, had petitioned the court last year, arguing that the marriage violated Sharia law and was unlawful.

The initial accusation against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi was that they were married during the three-month “iddat period” that comes after a divorce. Maneka has further accused them of infidelity.
