Expected increase in power tariffs of Rs3.41/unit
Information reveals that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) will be presenting a request to the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase the electricity rate by Rs3.41 per unit.
May’s increase in the monthly fuel adjustment is one of the reasons given by the CPPA in their application to NEPRA for an increase in the electricity rate.
With a production cost of Rs9.12 per unit, 12.26 billion units of electricity were produced last month, according to the CPPA.
Consumers who are already burdened by high electricity rates will face further challenges if the proposal is allowed.
After the federal government unveiled the Budget 2024–25, it further burdened the populace already affected by inflation by raising the power cost by Rs 5.72 per unit.
A raise in the average energy tariff from the current Rs. 29.78 to Rs. 35.50 per unit has been announced by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
The base power rate was already raised from Rs 7.91 per unit in the previous fiscal year to Rs 7.50 per unit in the current one.
But as of July 1, the higher electricity rate will take effect.
