Army sent to Sindh to ensure security during Muharram

The Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997’s Sections 4 and 5 govern the army’s deployment in Sindh, as they do for the rest of the nation.

As made clear by the Ministry of Interior, the provinces will have the power to choose the places for army deployment, which will depend on the conditions on the ground.

With the stated purpose of supporting the civil administration, the federal ministry of interior has issued orders for the army’s deployment.

The fact that Pakistan will mark Ashura on Wednesday, July 17, is worth mentioning here. In Sindh, pillion riding is prohibited for the ten days of Muharram by the provincial administration.

On the tenth day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, people celebrate Ashura, a day commemorating the tremendous martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his allies at the Battle of Karbala.
