By July 30, the government intends to “abolish” five ministries, including IT.
Rumour has it that other options are being considered for the future of the workers of the ministries that were shut down.
According to the sources, absorption into other ministries, inclusion in the excess pool, and the golden handshake bonus for personnel who are ready to retire are among the suggested alternatives.
The proposals have been prepared by the Institutional Reforms Cell in conjunction with the pertinent ministries. According to sources, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will also be consulted over the suggested packages.
According to reports, Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, would be briefed on the issue before a final decision is made.
Prior to this, PM Shehbaz chose to eliminate five federal departments and asked the pertinent ministries to submit a proposal.
They also stated that, at PM Shehbaz’s request, the concerned ministries got to work developing recommendations to do away with the same.
According to the sources, the decision to eliminate the ministries was made in response to a request made by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who had been pushing for the elimination of a number of federal ministries.
He said that all such ministries and government departments that had become a burden on the nation and its citizens would be shut down in his first speech to the nation as PM.
