Workers with WAPDA threaten to stop Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s power supply
A protest demonstration condemning the attack on the Swabi personnel was organized by the All Pakistan WAPDA Workers’ Union and held outside the Press Club in Peshawar.
One of their employees was allegedly killed and several were injured during an incident in Swabi, according to the demonstrators. Employees threatened to stop power supplies to the entire province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if the police did not apprehend the attackers within three days.
Separately, in FY2023–2024, the Water and Power Development Authority’s Hydel Power Stations supplied the National Grid with 34.436 billion units of electricity.
According to a news release, WAPDA’s enhanced hydrology and efficient management and upkeep of its Hydel Power Stations allowed for the successful generation of this additional hydrogen.
Had the same quantity of electricity been produced using imported furnace oil, the national exchequer would have lost Rs. 143.7 billion as a result of the 3.266 billion units of hydrogen power that WAPDA increased to produce.
