Utility stores reduce prices on 800 products.
Details: Depending on the goods, the Utility Stores representative stated that the price reduction varies from 8 to 60 rupees per item.
Prices for a number of brands—including ketchup, tetra pack milk, dry milk, spices, pickles, soap, toothpaste, tea, noodles, ghee, and others—have been lowered.
A notice of the price cut, effective today, has been released by the Utility Stores Corporation.
A representative for the company stated that although the Benazir Income Support Program subsidy is now discontinued, it will soon be reinstated through a new system.
Customers can buy necessities from retailers without difficulty or restrictions. The representative went on to say that attempts are also being made to lower the costs of other goods.
Previous to this, Industry and Production Ministry Secretary Saif Anjum informed a senate committee that the federal government had made the decision to close utility stores throughout Pakistan because of budgetary limitations.
Saif Anjum gave a briefing on the decision to the Senate Standing Committee and made recommendations to the panel about the closure of utility retailers. Closing storefronts and other businesses is one of the recommendations made by the rightsizing committee to cut costs.
