When England announces their Test squad for Pakistan, key players return.
For the Test series against Pakistan that is slated to begin next month, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday presented a formidable 17-member roster.
Scheduled to take place from October 7 to October 28, England will embark on a three-match tour of Pakistan as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).
In addition to spinners Rehan Ahmed and Jack Leach making their Test debuts, the England team includes two uncapped players: Brydon Carse of Durham and Jordan Cox of Essex.
Ben Stokes, the captain of England’s regular Test team, has also returned to the team, though his involvement will depend on his fitness. Stokes was injured during the recently finished series against Sri Lanka.
Zak Crawley, England’s left-handed opener, was included in the 17-man team for the Test match against Pakistan despite being recovering from a thumb injury.
The injury was sustained by Crawley during an attempted catch during the last Test of the three-match series against the West Indies.
While the Green Shirts suffered a new low with their two-match home series loss to Bangladesh, England recently won series wins over the West Indies and Sri Lanka, giving them momentum going into their upcoming trip of Pakistan.
When England visited Pakistan for a three-match Test series in 2022, they routed the national team and achieved a resounding victory.
Test team for men in England:
Captain of Durham Ben Stokes; Rehan Ahmed of Leicestershire; Gus Atkinson of Surrey; Shoaib Bashir of Somerset; Harry Brook of Yorkshire; Brydon Carse of Durham; Jordan Cox of Essex; Zak Crawley of Kent; Ben Duckett of Nottinghamshire; Josh Hull of Leicestershire; Jack Leach of Somerset; Ollie Pope of Surrey; Matthew Potts of Durham; Joe Root of Yorkshire; Jamie Smith of Surrey; Olly Stone of Nottinghamshire; Chris Woakes of Warwickshire.
The unavailability of the sites for the next Test series against England should be noted, since the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may announce a revised schedule.
The PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi denied the rumors last week, confirming that all three of the series’ matches will take place in Pakistan. The second Test of the series, which was initially planned to take place at the National Stadium in Karachi, may now take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
