PTI rally prohibited due to terrorist concerns, as communicated to the SHC.
The PTI requested a public meeting in Bagh-e-Jinnah, and the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday ordered Karachi-East DC to make a decision by October 7.
After the party’s request for a public meeting was turned down by the district administration, the PTI filed a plea before the high court.
Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed asked, “Why is the PTI not getting permission for a public meeting and the matter being kept in pending?”
“After security clearance is not issued, public meetings are not allowed,” the DC East district stated. Justice Sayeed questioned, “Who is not issuing security clearance?”
“The deputy commissioner stated that there is a fear of terrorism during the public meeting based on intelligence reports.”
Justice Sayeed stated, “Intelligence reports and meeting minutes had been requested by the bench at a prior hearing.”
According to SSP East, during a meeting, the district administration and intelligence agencies discussed a number of topics. The SSP went on to say that the public meeting could not proceed due to security concerns.
Permission to hold the event at a different location may be granted to the petitioner, the court stated.
The government lawyer informed the court that PTI could not be allowed to hold a public assembly because of its plans to foment chaos.
Justice Yousuf Sayeed warned the attorney, “Don’t talk in this manner; otherwise, a Pandora’s Box will be opened.” The bench declared, “Allow the rally; institutions have the right to take action if someone breaks the law.”
“Any location in Karachi could not be used for a rally by the PTI,” the deputy commissioner declared.
Justice Sayeed enquired, “Where are the meeting minutes that highlight the security threat?”
The PTI plans to hold its public meeting in Karachi on October 13, according to Barrister Ali Tahir, who updated the court.
On October 7, the court issued summonses to SSP East and DC East.
