Sindh is prepared to assume control of the operations for Karachi’s Green Line bus service.

Because Sindh government has finished all of the necessary preparations to take over Karachi’s first bus rapid transit project, the federal government will transfer the Green Line BRT to them in December 2024.

With an average daily ridership of 55,000 along a 20.9-kilometer route, the Green Line BRT project began operations in December 2021 and now has 80 buses operating on its dedicated route.

The federally financed project’s first phase was completed in approximately six years and went into service in 2021.

Numaish to Municipal Park near Jama Cloth Market is the final phase of the service, however it is currently unfinished as the federal government terminated the contract with the NLC in late 2020, forcing the construction to be abandoned.

The Green Line BRT issues were discussed at a high-level meeting that was chaired today in Karachi by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon of Sindh.

In attendance at the meeting were Shumaila Mohsin, CEO of Trans Karachi, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, and Kamal Hakeem Dayo, Managing Director of Sindh Mass Transit Authority.

In addition to receiving a thorough briefing on the Green Line project, Sharjeel Inam Memon was given a tour of the Green Line Bus Service operations during the meeting.

There was also a thorough debate about the idea to link the Orange Line project and the Green Line.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon gave the order to expeditiously finish the project by which the Green Line is connected to the Orange Line at the meeting.

Along with these topics, the meeting covered utility services, subsidies for the Green Line Bus Service, and the Sindh Government’s continuing operations in the public transport sector.

Memon made a statement during the meeting stating that the Green Line project is an essential part of Karachi’s public transportation network. In December 2024, the federal government will hand over control of the Green Line project to the Sindh government, he stated.

The project to connect the Green Line to the Orange Line is intended to be finished by the Sindh government by December 2024, he claimed.

The Sindh Government would reassess the 2 billion rupee yearly subsidy that the Federal Government now provides for the Green Line’s operations, according to Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

The introduction of more buses will improve the effectiveness and calibre of transportation services for the populace after the project is turned over to the provincial administration.
