Mustafa Nawaz asks constitutional amendments to be transparent.
Former PPP senator Mustafa Nawaz said in a statement that the proposed constitutional modifications are all that we are asking for more openness on. “The draft constitutional bill should be made public, and the government should be directed to solicit public feedback on it,” Khokhar stated.
“People are applauding Maulana Sahib (Fazlur Rehman) for his stance, saying that he has impeded the constitutional amendment.”
In a recent appeal, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar asked the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to issue an order requiring the proposed constitutional amendment’s draft to be made public and allowing comments to be submitted prior to its approval.
The federal government was listed as a respondent by Khokhar in his petition.
Per the petition, public opinion ought to be consulted prior to the enactment of any new amendment, just like it was with the 18th Amendment.
“It is against democratic and parliamentary norms to force a constitutional amendment through parliament in a single day,” contended the petition.
According to the petition, any new legislation must be published in the official gazette and give the public at least eight weeks to provide input before it can be amended. These are requirements set forth by the National Assembly itself.
