IGP creates a committee to look into the KPC incident.
To look into claims of police brutality against journalists and women protesting, the IGP formed a three-person team.
Along with SSP Aviation and SP Investigation, the committee would be led by DIG Special Branch.
Investigating the alleged torture is the committee’s mandate, and it has five days to turn in a report. There’s also been an official notification released on this front.
A commission to investigate the allegations police torture was earlier instructed to be formed by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar and IGP Ghulam Nabhi Memon.
In a three-day timeframe, the Sindh minister instructed Ghulam Nabi Memon to guarantee an unbiased investigation of the police action.
Lanjar also asked about the police officers who had been suspended following the incident.
The violent behavior of police officials toward journalists has provoked concern in the media community. DIG South Asad Raza has acknowledged that departmental action is being taken against these officials.
DIG South denounced the mistreatment, saying it is wrong to take such acts against journalists, particularly if they reveal their identity.
“Strong measures will be implemented against the law enforcement officers implicated in the mistreatment,” Raza declared, emphasizing that the South Zone Police is adamantly opposed to any kind of aggression used towards journalists.
Using the analogy of “Choli Daman” (inseparable), he further emphasized the close tie that exists between the police and the press community.
