“Agreement reached to form a constitutional bench in the Supreme Court”

Seven permanent judges who are impermanent would make up the bench, according to sources familiar with the plans, giving the judiciary stability while addressing constitutional issues.

These judges will have the ability to hear cases other than constitutional petitions, according to sources.

The appointment of these permanent justices will fall within the purview of the Judiciary Commission, guaranteeing an organized and official procedure.

A proposal to do away with the Supreme Court’s role in selecting members of Pakistan’s Chief Election Commission (ECP) is also being discussed.

If a dispute arises during the member election process, the Supreme Judicial Council will have the last word, with the majority ruling being legally enforceable.

According to insiders, the administration is also aiming to allow Pakistanis living abroad to run in elections.

The Pakistani living abroad will have to give up their dual citizenship within three months, though, if elected.

Moreover, sources verified that Pakistanis living abroad who are in Pakistan during elections will be permitted to vote.
