The PTI has distanced itself from the special parliamentary committee on CJP selection.
Today’s special committee meeting will begin at 4 p.m. Following the committee’s recommendation, the prime minister will forward the nomination to the president for final confirmation.
The decision was decided at a key meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Political Committee.
According to the announcement, no members of the PTI will attend the special committee meetings. The assembly also agreed to take harsh measures against members who vote against party doctrine.
The PTI political committee has announced that any member who supports the change will face disciplinary action, including the revocation of their party membership.
The committee also endorsed sending show-cause notices to members who have left the party. The party will decide their future inside PTI based on their responses to the show-cause notices, according to an official statement.
The appointment will be overseen by a 12-member Special Parliamentary Committee made up of representatives from both the government and the opposition benches.
Senators Azam Nazir Tarar, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, and Shaista Pervaiz are among the committee’s members. PPP leaders Farooq Naek, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, and Syed Naveed Qamar are also among the members.
Notable legal experts: Barrister Ali Zafar, Barrister Gohar, and Sahibzada Hamid Raza are also on the committee, while JUI-F member Kamran Murtaza and MQM-P delegate Rana Ansar have been selected to the committee in charge of the critical Chief Justice of Pakistan appointment process.
