The 40th polio case of 2024 is reported from Pakistan.
According to NIH officials, Dara Adamkhel’s two-and-a-half-year-old child has developed Type-I poliovirus.
Another district youngster was discovered to have polio earlier this month, making this Kohat’s second case of the disease this year.
There has been evidence of poliovirus in four Kohat sewage samples.
It should be mentioned that this is the 40th polio case from Pakistan in 2024. Two further polio cases were reported from the districts of Sanghar and Mirpurkhas in Sindh province earlier on October 19.
Over 4.5 million youngsters in Pakistan are to be immunized as part of a statewide polio vaccination campaign that will start on October 25.
The campaign would launch in Sindh province and be carried out in three stages, according to sources.
On October 25, the first phase will start in Sindh, and on October 28, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the second phase will start. On November 11, Punjab, Balochistan, and Islamabad will begin the third phase.
2.3 million children in Punjab, 1.6 million in Sindh, 730,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 265,000 in Balochistan are among the more than 4.5 million youngsters that the campaign seeks to vaccinate.
Furthermore, vaccinations would be administered to 281,232 youngsters in Gilgit-Baltistan, 740,000 in Azad Kashmir, and 461,125 in Islamabad.
