On October 17, the Senate enacted legislation aimed at the establishment of specialized courts dedicated to the protection of property rights for overseas Pakistanis. The bill, presented by Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik, received unanimous approval; however, PTI’s Ali Zafar advocated for its referral to a committee, expressing apprehensions regarding the possibility of false cases arising.
The designated court shall possess authority over the entirety of the Islamabad Capital Territory. Individuals residing abroad who hold Pakistani citizenship are able to submit petitions utilizing contemporary technology, such as electronic filing systems.
The designated court shall permit the presentation of evidence via video links or other legally recognized methods, under the oversight of representatives from Pakistan’s High Commission, embassy, or consulate.
Cases presented in the specialized tribunal will be resolved within a span of 90 days, thus ensuring an expedited resolution, mitigating delays in the administration of justice, and ultimately protecting the interests of overseas Pakistanis.
