Lahore is the second most polluted city in the world today, while Karachi is the eighth.
The global air quality index ranks Karachi at number eight.
At 274 on the air quality index, New Delhi, the capital of India, has been at the top of the list.
Karachi came in at number eight with 170 AQI readings, while Lahore came in second with 201. It should be noted that Lahore’s air quality index (AQI) readings skyrocketed to dangerously high levels of 700 last Sunday, which is extremely harmful to one’s health.
Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab, stated Monday that she intends to overcome the threat of dangerous air quality levels by engaging in smog diplomacy with India.
Addressing a Diwali celebration in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz stated, “Smog is not a political but a humanitarian issue, and I am considering writing a letter to the chief minister of Indian Punjab.”
According to specialists, the impact of smoke entering the atmosphere from burning industries, coal, trash, oil, or tires, as well as crop residues, starts to show at the beginning of winter and lasts until the conclusion of the season.
It should be noted that an AQI score of 150–1200 is deemed unhealthy, while a reading of 201–300 is more detrimental and is quite dangerous.
