KE wants to lower the power tariff by Rs 0.16.

On October 31, 2024, KE’s appeal for provisional monthly fuel charge adjustments (FCA) for the month of September 2024 was heard by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

According to a statement released here, the KE insisted that the proposed FCA would provide PKR 247 million in relief, or PKR 0.16 per unit. The FCA amount that will be added to customer bills and the time frame for which it will be applicable will be clarified by the NADRA’s decision after the public hearing.

Due to changes in the generating mix and worldwide fluctuations in the cost of fuel used to produce power, utilities must make adjustments to their fuel charges. After NEPRA reviews and approves these expenses, they appear on client invoices. Lower worldwide fuel prices also help customers by showing negative FCA on their bills. NEPRA sets the rates that are applied to consumer bills, and the Federal Government notifies them.

In a previous ruling, the NEPRA set the preliminary monthly fuel charge adjustments (FCA) for July 2024 at PKR 3.03 per unit in response to K-Electric’s (KE) petition. At the end of 2024, the sum will appear on consumer bills.

The Regulatory Authority has decided that FCA will apply to all consumer categories, with the exception of prepaid metering, lifeline, and electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) consumers.
