To compensate for gas losses, SSGC charges consumers billions of dollars.

Sources claim that SSGC customers have received extra invoices totaling more than Rs11 billion, purportedly as payment for gas theft.

A total of 23 billion cubic feet of gas were billed by SSGC. By overcharging consumers, SSGC reportedly reduced its Unaccounted-for Gas (UFG) percentage from 18 percent to 10 percent, according to sources. It appears that the corporation used this action to turn its declared losses into profits.

Between July 2023 and May 2024, the business charged customers more than Rs11 billion in additional fees. Under areas like theft, slow meters, and UFG changes, customers were subjected to a heavy burden.

SSGC sent bills of Rs79 billion within the course of a year, from July 2023 to May 2024, with a client base of nearly 3.5 million. This amount represents an increase of Rs44 billion above the billing from the prior year.

Based on information provided, SSGC sent customers additional bills of Rs2,085 for “conical baffle” charges. These additional fees are upsetting millions of customers in the 3.2 million-strong customer network.

Regardless of whether geysers were put in their homes or not, consumers were shown to have gotten inflated costs. Conical baffle installation was preceded by additional fees.

In response to public outrage, the OGRA released a clarification indicating that the installation of conical baffles has been approved in order to guarantee consumer safety and save gas costs.

According to the spokeswoman, customers who are charged for not having a geyser should complain to the business or OGRA.

Conical baffle installation surveys were carried out, according to SSGC authorities, and charges were levied following OGRA’s clearance. The installation procedure has started.

SSGC advised customers who have any issues about Conical Baffles to get in touch with the closest Customer Facilitation Center (CFC).
