The 2024 SAAF Cross Country Athletics Championships have been postponed as a result of the pollution.
Originally scheduled for November 24 in Islamabad, the South Asian Athletics Federation (SAAF) Cross Country Athletics Championships 2024 have been postponed as a result of the persistent hazardous pollution in central Punjab.
In light of the significant health risks posed by the pollution, the government’s decision was reached after consultations with SAAF leadership and deliberations. Strict measures, such as the suspension of educational institutions and the restriction of business hours, have been implemented in the affected regions.
Road closures and airspace restrictions during the travel period have impeded the preparations of two participating teams that were set to travel from Lahore to Islamabad by road.
Postponement was necessary due to the persistent pollution and its potential adverse effects on athletes’ health.
In a few months, it is anticipated that the championships will be rescheduled. In order to guarantee a secure environment for all participants, new dates will be announced in the near future.
