Muhammad Rizwan and Babar Azam see a drop in the ICC T20I Rankings
The Green Shirts’ below-average batting performance was largely responsible for their embarrassing whitewash in the three-match series.
In the series, Babar scored a pitiful 47 runs at an average of 15.66 and a strike-rate of 142.42, while Rizwan amassed 16 runs in two games at a horrendous strike-rate of 57.14. Both batsmen fell one spot each in the ICC T20I Batting Rankings as a result.
Babar Azam has fallen from fourth to fifth place with 742 rating points, while Muhammad Rizwan’s 719 rating points put him in sixth place.
Notably, Fakhar Zaman (64), the third-highest-ranked hitter from Pakistan, is not among the top 50 batters in the T20I rankings, with Babar and Rizwan being the only other Pakistani batsmen in the top 50.
Indian batsman Tilak Varma, meanwhile, jumped 69 spots to third place in the ICC T20I Batting Rankings following his outstanding performance in the four-match series against South Africa.
Varma amassed 280 runs over four innings with an impressive average of 140.00 and an explosive strike rate of 198.58, smashing two unbeaten hundreds in the series.
Notably, Travis Head of Australia, who was unable to play in the series against Pakistan, is currently ranked first in the batting rankings. Phil Salt of England is next in line.
Sanju Samson, Varma’s teammate who finished the series against South Africa with the second-highest run total, also made a significant improvement, moving up 17 spots to 22nd.
