The court requested action against the beggars.
The case against professional begging in Pakistan was taken up by Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza, the LHC Judge. According to the petitioner, professional beggars use organized begging to earn billions of dollars every year.
The petitioner contended that the actions of beggars overseas are damaging the nation’s reputation and asked the court to order the Punjab government to take strong action against them.
The Child Protection Bureau’s chairperson has been directed by Justice Mirza to take action against professional beggars after receiving the petition.
Additionally, the court directed the petitioner to provide suggestions for resolving the matter. The bureau’s response and suggested actions will determine the next steps.
It is important to note that the imposition of a strict Umrah policy by the Pakistani government is strengthening its hold on begging in Saudi Arabia.
Four travel agents implicated in transporting residents to Saudi Arabia to beg were arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) during raids in different parts of Multan.
An FIA spokesperson said that Sadiq Hussain, Mohammad Ejaz, Ghulam, and Ghulam Yaseen were among the agents who were arrested.
The representative clarified that information from those who had already been arrested was used to make these arrests.
