The seventh polio case of the year has been reported from D.I. Khan, one of the seven southern KP districts where polio is endemic.
WPV1 is experiencing a severe return in Pakistan this year; 56 cases have been reported thus far.
The largest numbers of cases have been reported from KP and Balochistan, with 26 and 15, respectively, followed by Sindh with 13 and Punjab and Islamabad with one apiece.
Polio has no known treatment; prevention is the sole option. All children under the age of five must receive many doses of the oral polio vaccine and complete the recommended vaccination schedule in order to develop strong protection against this terrible illness.
Throughout the year, the Pakistan Polio Program organizes many large vaccination campaigns to provide the oral polio vaccine directly to children’s homes.
At health institutions, the Expanded Programme on Immunization offers free immunizations against 12 child illnesses.
All children under five must receive vaccinations from their parents in order to safeguard them and contribute to the eradication of polio in Pakistan.
