The physical remand of journalist Matiullah Jan was contested before IHC.

According to specifics, Matiullah’s attorney, Imaan Mazari, filed the plea in opposition to the Anti-Terrorism Court judge Tahir Abbas Sipra’s decision.

In a case filed at the Margalla police station, senior journalist Matiullah Jan was placed on physical remand for two days yesterday.

According to specifics, Anti-Terrorism Court judge Tahir Abbas Sipra issued the reserved verdict in which the police requested a 30-day physical remand; nevertheless, the court authorized Matiulllah’s two-day physical remand.

Prominent Pakistani journalist Matiullah Jan was arrested in Islamabad earlier today, and the Margalla police station filed a case against him.

The driver allegedly tried to run over staff members who gave him the signal to halt the car, according to the FIR. According to reports, the driver purposefully accelerated the car in the direction of the staff, endangering their lives.

But by placing a barrier in the way, they were able to halt the car.

Since ice was found in the car’s seat, the FIR also stated that Matiullah Jan, who has been named in the case, was under the influence of drugs.

Charges of attempted murder and other serious offenses are part of the case.

Following Matiullah’s detention, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) called for the prominent journalist’s immediate release and threatened nationwide protest if the demand was not fulfilled.

The official statement from PFUJ states that Matiullah Jan’s detention is troubling because of his prior arrest in 2020. Since unlawful journalistic arrests would not be accepted in any civilized society, the union called for an impartial and open investigation into the occurrence.

The Matiullah Jan was allegedly kidnapped in broad daylight in 2020 by an unnamed group of men from Sector G-6 of Islamabad. The journalist was kidnapped, and the abductors ran away to an unidentified place.
