Khawaja Asif is accused by Sheikh Waqas Akram of undermining PTI-government negotiations.

In order to secure the release of political figures who have been wrongfully imprisoned, Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that the current discussions were not for a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

“We are demanding justice; we are not requesting any deals,” Akram said.

In order to confront the events of May 9 and November 26, Sheikh Waqas Akram continued, the talks with the government are centered on finding a solution to the political problem.

For the benefit of the country, the PTI leader said, the party had been compelled to hold discussions with individuals they would not have otherwise. He underlined that the ultimate objective is to put an end to the nation’s present instability.

Akram added that although the committee’s creation and the start of negotiations are positive steps, the real test of trust won’t be known for some days.

“We will see who is genuinely serious about resolving the situation in a few days,” he continued.

Even after holding discussions, Sheikh Waqas Akram confessed that he still did not feel comfortable shaking hands with some people, but he also noted that designated negotiators are ultimately in charge of these discussions.

Negotiations between the government and PTI
Following the conclusion of the first round of negotiations between the two parties in the National Assembly, the federal government requested a charter of demands from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Speaker of the National Assembly, chaired the meeting where government and PTI leaders talked about the political developments of the present day.

Rana Tanveer Hussain, Irfan Siddiqui, Aleem Khan, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Farooq Sattar, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar made up the government committee.

The opposition committee, however, was composed of Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Hamid Raza, and Asad Qaiser. It is anticipated that Salman Akram Raja will soon join the discussions.

Due to his participation in a cabinet meeting, Ali Amin Gandapur, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was unable to attend the initial round of negotiations.

Due to his court appearance, opposition leader Omar Ayub was also unable to take part in the negotiations.

On January 2, the following meeting will take place.
