The ECP has established December 31 as the deadline for legislators to submit their asset declarations.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has established a deadline of December 31 for all members of parliament (MPs) and provincial assemblies to submit their declarations of assets and liabilities, encompassing those of their spouses and dependents.
The ECP mandates that all parliamentarians submit their annual statements of assets and liabilities, encompassing analogous information for their spouses and dependent children, as of the prior June 30 on Form B for the 2023-2024 financial year, as stipulated by Section 137 of the Elections Act, 2017, according to a press release issued by the ECP on Monday.
On January 1st of each year, the Commission will publish the names of members who do not file the required statement of assets and liabilities within the designated timeframe.
The Commission will, on January 16, issue an order to suspend the membership of any Assembly or Senate member who does not submit the statement of assets and liabilities by January 15, and such member shall be inactive until the statement is filed.
The ECP stated that any member who submits a fraudulent account of assets and liabilities in significant detail may face proceedings for the offense of corrupt practice within 120 days from the date of filing.
The ECP said that the prescribed form, along with instructions and guidelines prepared in this regard, could be obtained free of cost from the Election Commission of Pakistan Secretariat, Islamabad; offices of provincial election commissioners in each province; Senate Secretariat; National Assembly; and secretariats of provincial assemblies. Form B is also available for download on the ECP’s website, www.ecp.com.
