Over 71,000 CNICs have been blocked by NADRA in five years.

For the last five years, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has blocked almost 71,000 computerized national identity cards (CNICs).

Documents submitted to the National Assembly by the Ministry of the Interior disclosed this information. Either the blocked ID cards were issued to an ineligible individual or were fraudulent.

Over all of Pakistan, the authorities blocked 71,849 ID cards. The breakdown reveals that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa barred 25,981 CNICs, while Balochistan blocked 20,583 cards.

Likewise, Islamabad saw 1,370 blocked, Sindh saw 9,677, and Punjab saw 13,564 blocked. In Gilgit-Baltistan, authorities blocked 228 cards, while in Azad Kashmir, they blocked 446.

44,460 cards have been unblocked by NADRA following verification over the last five years, according to official records.
