Twenty-one Pakistanis survive the migrant boat catastrophe in Morocco.
A migrant boat capsized off the coast of Morocco on its way to Spain, and 21 Pakistanis were among the survivors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) revealed on Sunday.
The catastrophe occurred on January 2, when a ship carrying 86 migrants—66 of them were Pakistanis—left Mauritania.
Moroccan authorities report that 36 people were saved on Wednesday in the vicinity of Dakhla, Morocco.
The boat carried people of different nationalities, with a sizable percentage of Pakistanis, according to a minority rights organization called Walking Borders.
Twenty-one Pakistani people have been recognized as survivors of a maritime disaster near Dakhla, Morocco, according to a statement released by the foreign office.
It added that the embassy in Rabat has arranged for individuals impacted to get aid right away.
Pakistan’s diplomatic post in Rabat organized for the survivors to get basic supplies like food, water, medicine, and clothing.
“Local authorities in Dakhla are responding to Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach by providing shelter and medical care,” the MoFA said.
“To ensure comprehensive support for our affected citizens and finalize repatriation procedures, the government remains in close coordination with relevant authorities in Morocco,” the Foreign Office said, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of citizens overseas.
It underlined its ongoing efforts to protect the welfare of Pakistanis living abroad and reaffirmed its determination to keep a close eye on the situation.
