PTI contests the proposed Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2024.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology, chaired by Amin Ul Haq, convened to discuss the government’s proposed Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2024.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for IT, informed the committee on the amendments to the bill. She confirmed to the members that the amended document had been disseminated to everybody.

Committee member Umar Ayub expressed apprehensions regarding internet interruptions, asserting, “Shark attacks on underwater internet cables have inflicted significant damage.” He additionally asserted, “Whenever PTI conducts a rally, internet speeds are intentionally reduced.” Ayub emphasized that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is opposed to the Digital Nation Bill, stating, “The digital economy is on the verge of collapse, and we lack the requisite tools to maintain it.”

Umair Niazi expressed dissent, asserting, “Do not expedite this process.” Prioritize our reservations first. He questioned the necessity of establishing a Digital Commission.

Barrister Gohar, a fellow committee member, reiterated concerns, inquiring, “What is the necessity for a Digital Commission?”

In response to the worries, Shaza Fatima stated, “There is a misunderstanding that all data will be centralized.” Institutions are undergoing digitization to improve efficiency. She asserted that digital identity will facilitate access to several services.
