Additional Registrar contests Supreme Court contempt notice

Nazar Abbas, the Additional Registrar (Judicial) of the Supreme Court, has contested the contempt of court summons issued to him in relation to the case-fixing controversy.

The Supreme Court has constituted a six-member bench, to be presided over by Justice Jamal Mandokhail. The bench comprises Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Shahid Waheed, and Justice Musarrat Hilali.

The bench will address the extra registrar, who was dismissed from the position due to the controversy, on January 27 (Monday).

The Supreme Court, in light of the scandal surrounding case manipulation, dismissed Additional Registrar (Judicial) Nazar Abbas from his position.

A statement from the Additional Registrar (Administration) announced that Nazar Abbas has been appointed as an officer on special duty (OSD).

Abbas was deemed culpable for erroneously scheduling a constitutional bench case for consideration by an ordinary bench.

The notification additionally indicated that the actions of the supplementary registrar squandered the time and resources of the court and the litigants. The Supreme Court registrar has been instructed to investigate the issue.

The court issued a contempt notice to the Additional Registrar (Judicial) for neglecting to schedule matters concerning the authority of constitutional and regular benches.
