The Bahamas has suspended SpaceX rocket landings pending an investigation following the launch.

The Bahamian government announced on Tuesday the suspension of all SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket landings in the country, pending a comprehensive post-launch review.

“No additional clearances will be issued until a comprehensive environmental assessment has been reviewed,” stated Bahamian Director of Communications Latrae Rahming in a post on X.

SpaceX did not promptly reply to a request for commentary.

In February, the Bahamian government announced that it had authorized 19 further SpaceX landings in the territory through 2025, contingent upon regulatory permission.

The Bahamas’ post-launch inquiry follows the explosion of a SpaceX Starship spaceship in space last month, few minutes after its launch from Texas.

Videos on social media depicted burning debris traversing the skies near South Florida and the Bahamas following the spacecraft’s disintegration in space, which occurred shortly after it began to spin uncontrolled with its engines disabled.

Subsequent to the event, the Bahamas reported that debris from the spacecraft descended into its airspace. The nation asserted that the debris harbored no hazardous substances and indicated that it was not anticipated to substantially affect marine ecosystems or water quality.

The Starship explosion was unrelated to SpaceX’s Falcon 9 landing operation in the Bahamas.
